Delta Eta History

 

Origin

The Delta Eta Chapter began at Southern State College as Omega Kappa Alpha (OKA) an interest group. In September 1972, Wilbur “Zero” King of Prescott, AR and Terry “Prexy” Calahan of Camden, AR organized Southern State College’s first local African American fraternity.

Establish

On May 4th 1973, King, Lawrence “Bloodstone” McKinney Jr. from El Dorado, AR and James “Bro. D./Dewitt” Phillips from Crockets Bluff, AR, charter members of Omega Kappa Alpha became affiliated with the local Omega Psi Phi graduate chapter – Kappa Chi.

Charter

The Delta Eta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. received its sanctioned charter on February 18th 1975. Thus, it became Southern Arkansas University’s first nationally recognized African American fraternity. David Sixbey served as the first Faculty Advisor.

Delta Eta Chapter fraternity members pledge to live by the Omega Psi Phi Cardinal Principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Members from the Delta Eta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi are making a positive impact in their respective communities, states, and the nation, as leaders in the arts, academics, athletics, business, civil rights, armed forces, law enforcement, education, government, agriculture, entrepreneurship and science.
